Daegu City's own research and development (R&D) project, the 'Next Generation Leading Technology Development Project (hereinafter referred to as Next Generation Project)', was found to have created direct sales of 54.6 billion won and 371 new jobs over the past 9 years.

Daegu City and Daegu Techno Park announced on the 9th that they achieved these results as a result of analyzing the business performance of 68 companies that received next-generation business support from 2010 to 2018.

The next-generation business began in 2003 as a business that goes beyond simple R&D funding and supports technology development projects linked to market-oriented commercialization.

As a result of Daegu TP's analysis of the business performance of 68 companies that received support from 2010 to 2018, direct sales achieved KRW 54.6 billion and, including linked sales, KRW 95 billion. In addition, 371 new jobs were created and, including linked employment, 516 jobs were created, and 564 intellectual property rights were secured.

Converting this into performance per 100 million won of support, it was analyzed that there was a sales performance of 514 million won and an effect of creating 3.5 jobs. In particular, 49 of the supported tasks were successfully commercialized, showing a high commercialization success rate of over 72%.

In particular, Computer Mate, which received support for the next-generation business, developed cloud-type smart factory operating system technology and achieved a significant reduction in the initial cost of smart factory introduction. The company plans to advance into the artificial intelligence (AI) field based on technology that collects and analyzes big data accumulated through next-generation business.

Kukdong Bolt, which produces bolts for adjusting the beam angle of automobile headlights, also received support from the next-generation business and developed technology that does not require a welding process, dramatically reducing the defect rate. Through this, we have achieved direct sales of 7.9 billion won over the past three years.

Ahn Jung-gon, head of the Daegu City Job Investment Bureau, said, “R&D support projects have a high R&D success rate, but the commercialization success rate is low. We will not spare any support so that the next-generation project is not limited to research for the sake of research but also leads to commercialization.”
