After the COVID-19 pandemic, our lives are facing irreversible change. Most fields, from performance and art to business and education, are being reorganized under the keyword ‘untact’. Industry and life are moving to the digital stage. Can companies in Daegu-Gyeongbuk become protagonists in the rapidly growing digital market? Maeil Newspaper meets with local SW (software) company managers and conveys their vision and technology to readers.

“Daegu is a city with excellent SW infrastructure. At a time when the importance of untact technology is growing day by day, I am confident that the SW industry will become the future food that will feed Daegu.”

Computer Mate Co., Ltd., located in Alpha City, Suseong-gu, Daegu, is an IT company established in 1992. We provide production site support and field management systems and an integrated information system that systematically manages work. We have technologies and solutions such as ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and MES (Manufacturing Execution System) that are optimized for manufacturing companies.

In particular, it has recently participated in the 'Smart Factory Supply and Expansion Project' promoted by Daegu City and the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, taking the lead in distributing IT solutions for local small and medium-sized businesses. A smart factory is an intelligent production plant that improves productivity and quality by combining digital automation technology with the production process, such as manufacturing and distribution.

Last year alone, Computer Mate carried out a smart factory distribution project targeting about 40 companies across the country, and is currently expanding its scope of activities both domestically and internationally, including exporting domestic smart factory models to overseas countries such as Vietnam and China.

Computer Mate CEO Seo Sang-in emphasized, “After COVID-19, that is, the post-corona era is a time when the size of the SW market is rapidly increasing,” and “many companies need to set their direction with non-face-to-face technology at the center.”

CEO Seo emphasizes that SW companies must have the ability to sensitively sense and respond to changes. He said, "Especially in the case of small and medium-sized businesses, they must abandon the idea of 'making and selling products alone' and constantly monitor and study the trends of large companies leading the market. Levi's jeans were the biggest beneficiaries of the American gold rush in the mid-19th century. “Just like that, a market derived from the mainstream can become a bonanza,” he explained.

CEO Seo, who has been serving as the 4th president of the Daegyeong ICT Industry Association since December of last year, evaluated that Daegu's SW industry foundation is at a very excellent level. He said, “Daegu has an Alpha City SW convergence cluster with about 60 companies, and there are many IT-related public institutions such as the National Information Society Agency and the Korea Education and Research Information Service, so it can be seen as having a strong foundation.” He added, “The local government needs to do a little more.” “If we pay attention and provide support, the SW industry will become Daegu’s future food source, connecting automobile parts and textiles,” he said.

As president of the Daegyeong ICT Industry Association, CEO Seo expressed his ambition to create an ICT platform that connects all industries by converging the local SW industry with other industries. He said, “To take advantage of Daegu, where SW infrastructure is integrated, SW companies and other companies must actively interact and mix,” adding, “Especially these days, products are sold only when there is fun and storytelling. In the future, local IT companies and “We want to create an environment where content companies can easily collaborate and integrate,” he said.
