In order to expand and popularize the AI (Artificial Intelligence) industry ecosystem, institutions and businesspeople from the Yeongnam and Honam regions have come together. They plan to take our country's 'AI convergence technology' to the next level through research results exchange and mutual cooperation.
Gyeongnam Technopark held the '2024 2nd Yeongnam and Honam AI Regional Expansion Technology Exchange Meeting' at the Grand Mercure Ambassador in Changwon, Gyeongnam on the 18th. The event was organized as part of the 'Manufacturing AI Convergence Infrastructure Creation Project'. Gyeongnam Technopark explained that it was a place to introduce AI convergence cases in regional businesses as well as to seek related technology sharing and cooperation plans.
The Manufacturing AI Convergence Infrastructure Development Project, supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA), is a project that was launched to solve manufacturing site problems with AI and increase work efficiency. This project, which started in the Yeongnam region, aims to develop AI solutions that solve manufacturing site problems by collecting, analyzing, and utilizing manufacturing data. In addition, it also aims to disseminate technologies suitable for each industry through verification. About 100 people, including SW (software) promotion organizations and business officials from the Yeongnam and Honam regions, attended the event.
The event also emphasized efforts to strengthen technological cooperation between industries in the Yeongnam and Honam regions and to spread AI solutions. Lee Sang-yeon, a senior researcher at the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute, said, “As AI technology is developing rapidly, manufacturing must also change to keep pace,” and presented several cases where AI has been applied to manufacturing and directions for local companies to increase their competitiveness with AI. Representative regional AI convergence cases were also introduced. Poinlab announced a raw materials management solution through inventory forecast-based process production scheduling. This solution aims to reduce the labor force of field workers by improving product inventory management, while improving field productivity by improving process scheduling. Kim Chang-soon, CEO of Poinlab, said, “This solution will enable us to predict and prepare for complex problems in the supply chain, which will significantly increase the stability of the manufacturing process.” ComputerMate’s vision inspection platform also garnered attention. The company explained that this platform is an AI vision inspection technology specialized in reducing defects. Kim Yong-hwan, head of ComputerMate’s research lab, said, “By detecting defects in real time on the production line, we can reduce unnecessary losses and significantly improve quality.” Poin introduced an AI-based solution applied to steel plate quality control. Lee Chae-soo, CEO of Poinlab, explained, “Based on this technology, it is possible to automatically detect surface defects in steel plates and maintain stable quality,” adding, “Not only is the labor-saving effect significant, but the quality of steel plates can also be maintained consistently.” Gyeongnam Technopark emphasized, “We expect to accelerate collaboration between organizations and companies in the Yeongnam and Honam regions through the manufacturing AI convergence infrastructure development project,” and “We plan to spare no effort in cooperation and support so that AI technology can enhance the competitiveness of the local manufacturing industry.”
